Conditions: Mix of sun and clouds with a little bit of wind and temps in the mid 30’s. A storm moved in near the end of the day drowning out the sun and causing a lack of visibility.
Flex: This board is the snappier one of the Interior Plains Project offerings. This board has a stiffer nose and tail to the start of the inserts, then it softens up from there through the dead middle. The torsional give matches the flex between the inserts. Over all it’s a snappy slightly stiffer middle of the road flex.
Stability: Never once did I feel chatter in this board or that I was going to get bucked. Whether charging hard down a groomer, through a mogul field, in the trees, or through left over powder stashes. This board is lively and poppy, but that liveliness isn’t sacrificed by being overly damp.
Ollies: There’s a carbon strip in the tip and tail from the beginning of the inserts to the end of the tips. This coupled with the elongated tip shape give this board snap. You want to pop? Then by all means send it to the moon! I spent the whole day boosting side hits, popping rollers, and flying off cat tracks.
Pop On Jumps: Much like the Harrow I found myself over shooting jumps with ease due to the pop of this board. This deck unlike it’s counterpart though has even more snap making it more of a bigger jump board.
Butterability: This tip shape is one of my favorites, it really lets you get out on it and play around. While the board does have a carbon strip in the tip, I found that it didn’t overly snap back when I was playing around on the tips. This made for a smooth ground butter that had rebound out of the tricks.
Jibbing: You do have to be on point to land in a press with this deck. If you didn’t lock in perfectly you weren’t getting a solid nose or tail press. Board slides were great as traditional camber just locks in so perfectly. Over all this board commands respect on the jibs as you want to do everything proper.
Carving: Ripping hard aggressive turns was fun with this board, but what I found even more fun were short tight turns that I sprung out of due to the snap in the tail. This board carves like a dream and after sending cat track gaps deep I would rail hard Euro inspired turns much to the chagrin of my party.
Rider in Mind: The guy that loves traditional camber and a board that is super lively.
Personal Thoughts: If I had a hard time putting down the Harrow, I nearly cried knowing I was going to have to leave the Honalee. This board is on par with decks like the Rome Mod. It’s fast, lively, aggressive when you need it, and a board that can do it all. Whether I was hitting log jibs, slashing pow, or jumping off a cat track or park jump it never faltered. The praise for this board and this brand runs high. I strongly suggest you get one.
