Conditions: Sunny bluebird skies, warm spring temperatures, and the snow ranged from firm and fast corduroy to piles of mashed potato death chunder.
Flex: While stiffer than a jib noodle it’s softer than a middle of the road park deck. There’s an abundance of play in the middle, stiffer at the insert packs, and then more play in the tips. The torsional flex and response is just as abundant as the lateral play in between the feet.
Stability: On groomers this board is more stable, but the second you get into chop this board will buck you around. At speeds on corduroy things were good and what you would expect. The second I ventured off into rutted out banked slalom-esq turns or moguls my knees were taking the abuse.
Ollies: Load the camber zone up and you’re going to have a lot of snap. This board is meant for popping off natural features, over small children or angry parents, and side hits. The camber zone isn’t so overwhelming that you spend all your time having to set up for the pop, but it isn’t a slouch either. This makes it great for jumping off natural hits.
Pop On Jumps: Small to medium jumps are where this board is at home. Anything more and the over all softer flex profile will buck you if you don’t land bolts. This actually happened to me and torqued my knee. The pop was solid and I constantly found myself taking jumps deep.
Butterability: As long as you’re not in heavy snow that will catch the corner of the blunt shape or pointy tip you’re going to have a great time. If you do get into snow that can catch the tips, just be aware. The softer flex in the tips is great for ground presses and that flat cut off tail is great for doing presses into reverts.
Jibbing: The camber section of the board locks into slides and gives the snap you would want out of presses. There’s an immense sweet spot in the tips of the boards for locking into presses which if you add the softer flex into the equation you’re going to have a good time.
Carving: This boards sidecut is designed to rip a hard aggressive turn. The downside can be that the softer flex will buck you if you’re trying to push a carve through mashed potato death chunder. Short set up turns to long drawn out ones are a breeze.
Rider in Mind: The guy that can only have one board that needs to do it all and has a freestyle mindset.
Personal Thoughts: This board is designed to attract attention with the tip shape, but also be versatile. It’s a softer do everything board and won’t be the right choice for everyone. It can carve, jib, jump, and slash slush/pow. The offset insert pack makes it nice for deep days to set the board back.
