Board: Rome Artifact Rocker
Size: 152
Camber Option: Freepop Rocker. Flat between the feet and rocker outside.
Bindings: Flux DS
Stance: 21 Wide 9 Negative 9 Goofy
Boots: DC Lynx 8.5
My Weight: 155lbs
Resort: A-Basin
Conditions: Late season post dump leaving choppy heavy crud snow.
Flex: Just enough substance to not be a full blown noodle. Soft from tip to tail with just a smidge more stiffness in the tips.
Stability: Not your point it through chunder fields kinda deck. See all those death cookies in front of you and all that nastry crap? Well, you’re gonna feel it all too. It never completely lost it’s composure through the gnar-crap, but you have to be on top of it.
Ollies: Solid snap for a jibstick. It’s not gonna boost you to the moon but it will get you up there and over whatever you need it to.
Pop On Jumps: It’s there, but it’s not gonna be much more than a 40 footer. If there is any variability in the lip you’re gonna feel it too. Land close to bolts and you’ll be fine but put it down to tip heavy and you’ll need some luck to keep it underneath you.
Butterability: Soft and flat rocker. What more does one need to butter their toasty toast off?
Jibbing: Flat decks are so nice for doing jib things. The Artifact is no exception. The flat between the feet contours around a bar well and locks into boardslides great. The tips have a great press point and just barely manage to keep you from going over the handlebars if you get a little to zealous pressing it out. The extra bit of stiffness in the tips is nice to snap out of a rail with so you can get all twisty and techy.
Carving: It’s pretty soft torsionally to it’s not the easiest to dig a trench with but the sidecut has just enough to it to keep a smile on your face if you’re not riding park or while you’re in that weird space between the lift and park, you know, groomers.
Rider in Mind: Skate influenced park kid focused more on rails than jumps.
Personal Thoughts: This has been a staple deck in Rome’s line for a good number of years now. At this point it’s just refinement. Still such a solid deck that will never let you down.
