Board: Salomon Derby

Size: 147

Camber Option: Flat out rocker. Rocker in the nose and tail, flat in between.

Bindings: K2 Indy

Stance: 22.5 Wide 18 Negative 15 Goofy

Boots: K2 T1 DB Size 10

My Weight: 170lbs

Resort: Breckenridge

Conditions: 7 inches of snow reported over night making the two day total just over a foot. Low visibility and minimal wind.

Flex: True directional powder board flex. Softer nose, stiffening up between the feet, stiffer tail. There is a fair amount of torsional give to really allow you to drive it from edge to edge.

Stability: The only place this board is completely unstable is charging through a powdery mogul field at balls to the wall speeds. Everywhere else it’s super stable and damp.

Ollies/Pop: With the board being so small it creates a micro ollie point under the back foot that you can utilize to get the most boost out of the deck. This board is like riding a skateboard and you can just set up quick pops off natural features with ease.

Butterability: The nose has the most surface area for butters so pop a 180, lean into it, and get wily. Otherwise it’s not a deck I would do a lot of buttering on, but it is soft enough to play around on the snow.

Carving: On hard packed the sidecut initiates and locks in allowing for smooth carves. You can flex the board to really rally a tight turn but be prepared to wash out on the tail as there is next to nothing back there. Over all it has quick edge to edge initiation which does allow it to lock in and rip a tight aggressive turn.

Rider in Mind: The powder guy that is going to spend his days railing turns through tight trees or riding mellow wide open powder lines.

Personal Thoughts: Every year this board is fun and doesn’t disappoint. The 2016 model continues on that micro pow board frame that lets you rip tight trees with ease but still slash snow when entering into a little more wide open spot. Over all it’s definitely a board that has a spot in a riders quiver.
